About Me

I believe life is full of experiences and we are all storytellers.  You are here because you are considering sharing your story with me.  Allow me to share some of my personal and professional journey.

I was raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and spent my time between farmlands and the Chesapeake Bay.  I studied at the University of Maryland in College Park, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literature, with a minor in Women's Studies.  I spent a year and half in Costa Rica studying abroad, learning the language and culture, and taking art classes. After graduating, I worked as a high school Spanish teacher in 2004-2005, then worked with local migrant farmworkers' children in the summer teaching them to swim. I felt a passion for helping others, which eventually landed me in Wilmington to obtain my Master of Social Work degree at UNCW.  I completed my internship working with the local Hispanic population and survivors of domestic violence.  I graduated in 2010 and began my career as a therapist treating a variety of life and mental health concerns.

On a personal note, I fill many roles.  I am a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a feminist, a therapist, an advocate, a helper, and a teacher, among others.  While I have not always controlled my circumstances in life, I am empowered in that I choose how to define myself in this world.  I enjoy spending time with my twins, being with nature, cooking, creating, and traveling.  I recognize that I am still evolving in this world and I am trying to remain present on that journey.
